CATnips - 2026 Call for submissions
Are you a playwright? Have you ever wanted to direct a play? Maybe you're an actor with a passion project you would like to share.
Well we have the festival for you!
Central Alberta Theatre is pleased to present their annual CATNIPS One-Act Festival.
This long standing festival has been a staple of CAT for many years. It is an all inclusive festival that allows for original one-act plays as well as previously published material. Many of our participants have gone on to award winning festivals such as the Heartland and Provincial One-Acts.
The festival will be presented April 17th-18th 2026 and submissions are now open until January 31st 2026.

Please note: Due to an overwhelming response of submissions, CATNIPS will be giving priority to plays that are "self-produced" (i.e. You provide your own actors, director, stage manager). CAT can accommodate venue and rehearsal space, along with access to costumes, props, and set decor. We will also be providing house technicians for the festival and give each group time for cue to cue and dress rehearsals. Plays without their own production crew and cast will be considered, but we can only guarantee participation if we are able to secure the volunteers needed for your show.
