Classes for 2024-25

Central Alberta Theatre strives to make available to its volunteers and members a wide array of training opportunities throughout each season.

Volunteers design, build and paint sets, find or create props, stage manage, design hair and make-up, design lights and soundscapes, design and select costumes, work as backstage crew, and much more.

Creating live theatre is all about teamwork!

We’re thrilled to offer our volunteers the chance to learn these roles, and the rewarding experiences of creativity and teamwork that come with it!

We provide training workshops from time-to-time in areas like acting, directing, lighting, sound, makeup, and more, depending on what our volunteer needs are at the time. We also try to pair experienced volunteers with inexperienced ones whenever possible.

Intimacy Workshop with Ash Mercia

January 19, 2025: 1-3PM

CAT is happy to announce our next member workshop with Ash Mercia. Ash, who has graced our CAT stage multiple times will bring her expertise in the world of stage intimacy. Ash has helped out with some of our recent productions in order to establish a safe environment for intimate scenes. As CAT strives for this constant standard of safety within our rehearsals, we welcome Ash to share her knowledge to our growing group of actors, directors, stage managers etc...who can bring this important aspect to their own safe rehearsal space.

WORKSHOP

Theatre is visual storytelling, and many of humanity’s most powerful stories involve intimacy. From simple hand holding all the way to intricate scenes of physical intimacy, teachers, directors and actors need to know and understand the tools and the language needed to direct and choreograph intimacy respectfully and safely. This course is an introduction to intimacy coordination, and is perfect for both the actors who will be performing intimate scenes and the directors who will be working these scenes into their vision.

Exercises to help create trust and chemistry with fellow performers.

Closure so that you may leave the work where it belongs: on the stage.

The language to respectfully discover and articulate your boundaries.

Techniques to keep yourself physically and emotionally safe when getting into and out of charged emotional scenes of intimacy.
