Big things have small beginnings. Central Alberta Theatre is pleased to announce its annual CATNIPS ONE-ACT Festival, featuring an array of Red Deer talent. Our hour long festival offers three bite sized plays which offer comedy, romance, and a little bit of edge. You’ll be surprised, intrigued, and begging for more. ADMISSION IS FREE, but seating is limited so we ask you to please book your tickets through showpass. Donations will be accepted at the door. There will be a cash bar available. The festival contains mature subject matter with warnings for adult language and situations. This is not suitable for young audiences.

Show will take place inside the Studio Theatre on the 3rd floor of the Red Deer Memorial Centre (4214 58th Street) The show begins at 7:30pm and doors open at 7:00pm. It runs approximately for one hour with no intermission.

“Westbrook Part 2” Written by Jessica Swainson (Local Playwright)

A continuing saga in the vein of Jane Austen and “Bridgerton.” Last year we presented Westbrook Part 1 in which Charles leaves his family due to his father pressuring him to marry for money, when what he really wants, is to wed the love of his life, Melissa.  In part 2, Charles is now estranged from his parents, and living with Melissa.  Charles' mother makes a plea to re-connect with her son. Runtime Approx. 10 mins.

“Her Only Customer” Written by Celia McBride

In this unexpected and unusual comedy, Delilah Crick, a bored waitress, finds her monotonous night shift interrupted by a difficult patron. As tensions rise between Delilah and her only customer, truths are revealed about both women that shed light on the reality of being human." Runtime Approx. 30 mins.

“Louie’s Daughter” Written by Frederick Stroppel

At Louie's, a typical corner bar, regulars A. G. and Woody enjoy the male camaraderie of friendly insults, unsolicited opinions and pointless conversation. But their comfortable everyday routine is disrupted by the unexpected presence of a pretty female bartender. Runtime Approx. 25 mins.
